Stapleton Stained Glass Restored

The double issue of Country Life this month features a piece about an early 14th-century piece of stained glass which has been saved. The glass has links to Lord Gerald and Carlton Towers through his ancestor of 21 generations ago - Sir Miles Stapleton. Located in All Saints, North Moreton, Oxfordshire, the glass illumintes the Sir Miles De Stapleton Chantry. Sir Miles married into the De Bruce family in 1301 and was the first family member to live at Carlton. He died at the battle of Bannockburn.

Following its restoration at York, the glass was returned to North Moreton and blessed by the Bishop of Dorchester. Lord Gerald attended the blessing on behalf of the family.
