HOW TO USE YOUR LOAF!
Masterclass in Baking Sourdough at Yorkshire Stately Home
Who doesn’t love sourdough, but don’t you wonder how it’s made? Now Carlton Towers, one of Yorkshire’s finest privately owned stately homes, is giving budding bakers an opportunity to learn the technique. The half day masterclass, based in the stunning Cook’s Kitchen, takes place on Saturday, September 20.
Held in conjunction with award-winning East Yorkshire based Luke’s Bakery, participants will learn how to create an artisan loaf at home. At the end of the course, they can take their bakes home with them, plus some of Luke’s sourdough starter to continue honing their skills.
The course is aimed at all levels of ability. “We’ll have you mixing, shaping and baking like a pro by the end of the course,” said Luke from Luke’s Bakery who will lead the class.
The Carlton Towers Introduction to Sourdough Master Class is from 10am to 3pm on September 20, 2025, and costs £150 per person. It includes coffee, tea and refreshments, plus a delicious sourdough lunch baked by Luke.
The Cooks Kitchen at Carlton Towers is the lovely venue for the event. It was recommissioned as an auxiliary hospital during the Second World War, and bakers will be able to see the two original black ovens installed by the army at the time, when they attend the workshop.
