An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Finance to join the team at Carlton Towers near the market town of Selby and historic city of York. Carlton Towers is a privately owned stately home which hosts weddings and private events, alongside a vibrant calendar of public events. The estate comprises the Grade I listed house with accommodation in 16 state guest rooms, 250 acres of parkland, a vineyard that produces an award-winning sparkling wine, holiday cottages, and the Stables Tearoom overlooking the walled vineyard.

  • Carlton Towers is owned by Lord and Lady Fitzalan Howard who reside in private quarters at Carlton Towers and welcome guests into their home. Outstanding hospitality sits at the heart of Carlton Towers where we aim to deliver a unique and memorable experience to every person who visits.

    As Head of Finance, you will lead our finance function with clarity, rigour, and integrity. You’ll be responsible for:

    • Leading a high-performing finance team

    • Delivering monthly and annual financial reports

    • Driving budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow strategies

    • Overseeing payroll and supporting HR functions

    • Ensuring statutory compliance (VAT, audit, tax)

    • Managing financial controls, IT, and data systems

    You’ll be a key player in strategic planning and a trusted advisor across the estate’s operations.

    Essential Skills & Experience:

    • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

    • Proven track record in financial leadership, reporting, and control

    • Strong knowledge of VAT, payroll, audits, and trust structures

    • Exceptional team leadership and stakeholder engagement skills

    • Comfortable overseeing IT infrastructure and GDPR compliance

    Desirable:

    • Experience in heritage, hospitality, estates, or charitable organisations

    • Background managing multi-entity structures

    • Involvement in ESG/sustainability or digital transformation initiatives

     

    Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

    Pay: £55,000-65,000 per annum, dependent on experience
